Ragnarok Online is BACK!!! :D
I have sooo missed this game~ I was into it for a few months, then it just kind of disappeared from the face of the earth probably a year ago... and when it returned it was Closed Beta, which meant you could only play if you were willing to pay. But just a couple days ago the free Open Beta came to life again. *squee* Now if only I could download it.
Oh, that's a funny story. The game actually came back on Wednesday, but no matter how many times I tried I could not get the thing to download. Yesterday afternoon I finally got the download started - a whopping 570 MB - and it spent a few hours getting halfway complete before committing seppuku. I kept trying all night and all day today, with no success. Apparently the RO home page is only permitting 400 downloads at a given time, which explains why the other hundred thousand of us are having no luck.
Now here's where the fun starts. First, I realize that my computer is running out of space. Its 23 Gig hard drive is less than a gig away from full. Which meant the 570 meg RO download would really be pushing it. So I decided to clear up some space on my hard drive by getting rid of the 800+ MP3 files in my Kazaa folder (I had them all backed up in other places... don't worry, I haven't lost my brain :P). So I do that, freeing up a couple more gigs. Yay. Then guess what happens? Kazaa decides it doesn't want to play anymore. Every time I open it I immediately get an illegal operation window and it closes. I restart the computer several times, with no luck. Finally I uninstall Kazaa completely and reinstall the newest version. STILL won't work. So basically, I'm Kazaa-less. If I can't figure out the problem by the end of the weekend, I think I'm just gonna wipe it out again, and perhaps try reinstalling later.
Anyhow, yeah. So in my attempts to make room on my drive for RO, I somehow sacrificed Kazaa. Next step... find a place where I can actually download the RO client, since the official site's constantly dead. I check the official message boards and see a bunch of people recommending BitTorrent, a much smaller P2P type thingy that several folks have apparently been using to download the game. So I go and download BitTorrent, which takes a few tries, but eventually I'm successful. And it took no time at all to find another user who's sharing RO. So at last, it is currently downloading. ^^ It won't be done till tomorrow night at best, but that's cool, because I'll be gone for the weekend starting sometime in the next hour or so anyhow. I just hope my computer doesn't explode or whatever while I'm gone. It's been feeling just a little bit toasty lately...
Sooo, there we go. Adventures in RO and P2P. And maybe someday I'll get my Kazaa back.
