feeling: tired and happy listening to: Miyavi - Gariben Rock
Another very memorable Ohayocon is behind us. Some occasional annoyances here and there, but more than enough good times to make up the difference. My biggest complaint is that it was just far too short. :P
La la... Dumplin' and I set out Thursday evening for Calla's house, which was an... interesting drive. Couldn't tell where I was on the road half the time because it was pouring down rain the whole way, not to mention the final stretch of my usual route into Columbus was closed due to flooding so I had to take a long way around. Spent the evening at Calla's doing some last minute costume scheming, plus the standard viewing of amusing videos and such. And randomly experimenting with my digital camera... >.>
Got up sometime around noon Friday and headed for the con toward late afternoon, Calla and myself donned in our 1st period BLOOD costumes. We couldn't get into our hotel room yet, as the members of our party who had made the reservation hadn't arrived, so we added the final makeup and hair touches and stuff in a lobby restroom and initiated roaming around. First amusing point of note was that I was carrying a fake rose around just because I was Kaede and it made sense, but almost immediately left it lying somewhere. :P We saw some woman carrying it around, but didn't ask for it back. I had half a dozen more in my suitcase to be raided later. S'all good.
First major stop was the dealers' room, where we were very amused to see one dealer selling Giant Microbes. I of course had to buy the ulcer. >.> Got a dust mite too because it was cute... and Calla got a black death. *amused* We then did our little moth-to-flame impression, staking out the Jpophouse booth with the objective of finally capturing the lovely Harry on film (I'm betting Calla's picture came out better >>). I also bought out their entire BLOOD stock. XD (read: I bought the Morphine and Tsuioku singles, the only BLOOD releases I didn't have previously, and the only BLOOD goods they appeared to be selling.) Which means I finally have the Morphine/Collector single, which means I FINALLY have the lyrics to Collector so I can translate it. *jig* So, finally, we all contributed a bit to buy a grab bag from that booth, which proved to be well worth the $20 it cost. My share of the loot included Duel Jewel's Lapidary CD, a Psycho le Cemu postcard set, a couple little random flyer things, and a 2nd period BLOOD poster, which amused us to no end. There was also a 2nd period BLOOD photoset in there, which Calla took. Nyahaha, we got old BLOOD pictures that Kiwamu won't sell anymore because half of the 2nd period members are no longer there... *triumphant pose*
When we left the dealers' room to wander down artists' alley, we found ourselves stopped by the photographer from Fansview, a website that hosts various convention reports and photos, and he recognized our BLOOD armbands and lined us up for a photo. It's the second picture on this page. I'm the tall(er) one. :P Anyway, so that was pretty entertaining.
We did some random running around for the rest of the evening between the video rooms and open mic night (I didn't get a picture of the spiffy Kyo cosplayer T.T) and probably a few other places, before at last Mary and Dan arrived to get us all checked in at the hotel. So up to the room we went to complete our BLOOD ensembles and grab a couple more pictures of Calla as Kiwamu, myself as Kaede, and Dumplin'-chan as a cute little random blond-wigged goth. :3 Also grabbed one of Mary as Ein from Cowboy Bebop, cause she's so darned cute. *should've glomped her when Calla did*
Eventually we decided to go ahead and change into our evening costumes, which meant Calla and myself as random vampires. The stuff I ordered for my vamp costume never came in, so the wonderful lovable glompable Calla loaned me one of her dresses. Sankyuu my kitty <3
Anyway, so costume changes complete, we returned to wandering around. Checked out another video room or two as well as the Friday night dance (which was literally empty, so that was funny in itelf :P), but found the most amusement in making fun of people brave enough to go onstage and make dorks of themselves at open mic night. Especially the "grand" finale. Owww, my eyes. Let's just say people were making fun of me and Calla for cracking ourselves up so hard at the disturbing spectacle on stage. *twitch* We finally retired for the night somewhere between 4 and 5 am, when things started to get boring.
Another interesting note from Friday was that we managed to adopt the girl working at the Jpophouse booth. She kept talking to us and sitting to talk with us and waving at us and stuff when we were at open mic night. *amused* We didn't even really talk to her much or anything when we'd been at her booth previously... except kinda joining forces in making fun of the Gackt video she was playing while we were browsing there. So dunno how it happened... but it was all random and cute. :P
Moving on... Saturday was the day of frustrations. First we were awakened in the 9 am hour by Mary and Dan and the rest of their party, who had to leave early to register for the cosplay event and stuff, I believe. Then housekeeping woke us up again around 11, then we finally forced ourselves out of bed at 2 pm. Calla's Kiwamu costume was a fairly easy endeavor and looked very nice in the end, but then we spent like 2 stinkin' hours getting my Kaede costume of doom put together. Evil thing kept trying to fall apart all day despite Calla's constant checks and adjustments. >_>;; And yes, I have a new respect for that man for being able to actually wear all that crap while performing onstage. I could barely walk five steps without losing something. *death*
Speaking of losing things... that turned out to be sort of the theme for the day. >.> First I couldn't find my con badge in the piles and piles of random junk our hotel room was buried in, and on the way to get that replaced, Dumplin' lost her photo ID. Then while we were hunting for that, I lost MY photo ID (a.k.a. driver's license ><). Luckily we did find that rather quickly, though Dumplin's ID took some more effort... but eventually we got tired of the search and went for food. By the time we were done with that, it was almost time for the cosplay event to begin, so we were off to line up for that. And somewhere in that time Calla and I found ourselves handcuffed to each other, and remaining that way for pretty much the rest of the day. We'd lost enough stuff already... we weren't gonna lose each other. >.> <.<
Anyway, so we stayed for all of the cosplay event, minus the break at the end while the judges mulled over choosing the winners. Some awesome cosplays, some less than stellar, some just... wrong... and everything in between, as most cons go. Mary claimed a few seconds of walk-on stage time as Integra from Hellsing. Go Mary. :D Was also extremely entertaining seeing her literally on the floor laughing when she saw Calla and me locked together in the furry cuffs and Calla carrying a whip. XD Anyway, cosplay event ended and we ran around some more, checking out the dance and the Dir en Grey PVs in the J-music room and some more random video room showings... and somewhere in that span we lost Dumplin' for a couple hours. x_x Finally hooked up again later and shared a personal pizza thing... and then I lost my BLOOD armband. >___< So off we went searching for that, but no luck. Yes... Saturday was the day of lost things.
It had its plus moments though. Few people recognized our costumes and asked for pictures, and Eurobeat King, another professional photographer for a website that hosts con pictures and such (Cosplay.com, to be exact), finally took our picture too... after initially glaring at us every time we crossed paths throughout the day. XD We kinda have an interesting history with that man... long story... but it was amusing. Even better, I went through his cosplay.com gallery twice today and didn't see our picture there. *snort* Anyway, the Anime Hell event re-showed the parody fandub of Escaflowne that had me and Dumplin' rolling in laughter last year, so that was an entertaining hour or two. Including Calla and me keeping each other warm for about the last half of it. :P And after that was over, Dumplin' went to check out an anime showing while Calla and I found a room showing some old black & white Japanese movie that no one else seemed to be interested in, so we had the whole room to ourselves for most of that showing, which meant we could make fun of it and supply MST3k-style commentary all we wanted throughout its duration. A few other people did drop in on occasion though, including one or two staff guys who were more entertained by us than by the movie. X3 Dumplin' also joined us by the end of that one, and we stayed for the next movie, a fairly new Japanese horror film called Freeze Me about some woman who seemed to be an easy rape target for horny males, so to solve her problem she'd kill them by bashing their brains in and shoving them in freezers. And by the time that one ended the sun was about to come up, so we finally retired to the hotel room and, after a brief kitty cuddle with Calla to melt off some of the frustrations of the day (:P), we finally managed a few hours of sleep.
Sunday got off to a rocky start also, as we had to get up at the ungodly hour of 11 am so we could be out of the room by the hotel's noon checkout time, and then had to wait for what felt like hours to get an elevator to haul our stuff back to the car. It quickly got better though, because Sunday was our Takeshi and Taichi cosplay day, and darnit, we looked good. Not to mention I discovered that it's impossible not to be happy and bouncy and dorky while being Takeshi. Especially when Takeshi has a cookies 'n cream ice cream cone. >:P Anyway, besides all that, we had fangirls. I swear people stalked us around the con all afternoon, many of them squealing and running after us begging for hugs and pictures. We rocked. Even more amusing comparing that reaction to the occasional handful of people just politely asking us for pictures when we were Kiwamu and Kaede the day before. *snicker* Not only that, but we actually came across another girl in a Taichi cosplay. Which was uber cool... but I still say Calla's looked best. :3
And since we were in better moods on Sunday than we'd been on Saturday, we were finally up to indulging in all that fanservice we've been plotting for months. :P The cuddling, the glomping, the petting (occasionally followed by the infamous walking away as if nothing happened), the sharing of ice cream, the leaning on... all the fun stuff. And I really wished someone had a camera ready when we kissed, because I hear Dumplin's reaction when she saw it was worthy of its own roll of film. Didn't see it myself, as I was kinda looking in another direction, but that's what I hear. x)
Not much was happening on Sunday, so we hung around in the movie room from the previous night/morning and provided commentary again for the old B&W samurai film that was playing. Our staff guy came back to join us again, and by the end of the movie, we had quite effectively gotten pretty much everyone in the room in on the amusement. Even the woman sitting in front of us who seemed to be studiously ignoring us in the beginning was finally laughing with us by the time the credits rolled. Anyway, again, not much else was going on that day, so after some more random wandering around being dorks amongst ourselves, we at last said farewell to Ohayocon 5 and returned to Calla's for a couple hours. There we found random amusements online and elsewhere, and had ourselves some kind of little glomping party as a finale to the day. >.> And on a final note, Calla gives really good massages. <.<
So finally Dumplin' and I set out in the below-20 temperatures and flying snow to return home. Had a few interesting encounters with ice patches, but made it home unscathed and in a very perky mood. Took a while before I was ready to remove my Takeshi costume. >.> And now today I'm all sore and stiff and tired but happy at the same time. Miss my kitty though. ;_; But we had good times. *glomps kitty* Thank you for the dress and the costume perfectionism and the amusement and the everythiiiiing >^n.n^<
Also... I apologize for the quality of most of the pictures up there. Still not used to my digital camera. Plus the batteries kept dying, or there'd be lots more. >.< And anyway, now I'm off to start romanizing and translating Collector. *pets it*
EDIT: our pictures are now up on Cosplay.com as well. We are on page fourteen. :3
