feeling: tired and I miss my kitty
listening to: the song Gabrielle whistles in the Xena ep The Prodigal is stuck in my head >>

I have found The Friday Five again. It is now a Livejournal community (probably has been for a long time, I just didn't find it till recently). So now I'll probably be keeping up with it again... but in my LJ instead of here. Though I do believe I will go through the community's archives and post any old Fives that catch my interest here. Cause I'm special that way.

1. If you could go back and relive one moment or day from your life, without changing anything, what would you re-experience? Without changing anything? But things could always be made a little better... >> Eh, umm... heck, any of the random kitty cuddles are nice moments to relive. :P

2. If you could witness a moment in history, again without changing anything, what would you want to see? Not exactly a "moment," but I'd go with the latter years of Christ's lifetime. Just to, you know, know.

3. If you could talk to a younger version of yourself, what age would you visit and what message would you give? I'd go to me at age 17 and tell her no one in her life at that point, even her, has any idea what she'll end up devoting her life to (i.e. what she'll study in college), so stop being so frazzled about what she should do and just let life happen. Yeah, I could've picked any of a dozen other points in my young life where I could've taken care of a lot of heartbreak and pain, but if I didn't have those scars I wouldn't have the sources of healing I have today.

4. If you could choose one moment that would be guaranteed to happen in your future, what would it be and when would it happen? I'm not gonna discuss that... but sometime in the next couple years. There's a lot I want to see happen in the next couple years. I don't expect any of it to.

5. Pretend you left a time capsule for yourself 5, 10, 15, 20 or more years ago. You just opened it. What three things from your past are you now holding and what age were you when you buried them? I don't consider myself old enough yet to really get much out of the time capsule idea. Either that or I'm just too big a packrat to even notice anything ever changed. I've still got most of the pictures I've ever drawn since I wad 10 or 11, and a lot of the toys, books, etc. that I owned, right at my fingertips.

1. What is the most adventurous food you've ever tried? Eh, nothing too outrageous. Probably dried squid, which isn't saying much at all if you ask me.

2. What is the most adventurous food you'd be willing to try? I'll try just about anything once. As long as it's good and dead and not winking at me. *shudder*

3. Would you have a problem eating dog meat and why or why not? Yes. There are plenty of animals in existence that were DESIGNED to be eaten, and many of those are bred in ridiculous abundance by farmers throughout the world. Dogs are not among those animals. They're meant to be at the top of the food chain, and the domestic version is meant to be a companion, not a kibble.

4. For the most part, do you consider your diet to be balanced? *snor* No. Some days I get no veggie intake at all, my daily fruit intake is a glass of 100% juice from concentrate, and the only dairy I ever get is the occasional chocolate and cheese.

5. Which is more appealing- being a vegetarian for the rest of your life or being a strict carnivore for the rest of your life? Being a vegetarian, as long as it's not vegan. Seriously, people, there is NOTHING WRONG with drinking milk. IT'S MEANT TO BE DRUNK. And it's not like the cow suffers when you take it from her. >>

1) Name your fave song at the moment. At any given moment, there are way too many to list.

2) What is the most recent album/CD/Cassette you purchased? Heh, I don't even remember. All the CDs I've gotten in the past few months have been gifts. *thinks* It might've been VENGEANCE for BLOOD 2, by BLOOD obvoiusly.

3) Which song will you never get sick of hearing? Again, too many to list. But for now I'll just say Gackt - Vanilla. Can always rely on the classics. :3

4) What is your current fave music video? Heh... hmmm...you know, I couldn't say. I'm more into the music than the video.

5) If you could be a famous music artist, what type of music would you produce? Visual goth rock. By rock, I just mean the kind with more real instruments than synth effects, and less of that fake-feeling trancey dancey stuff. While some songs of that style are cool, I always preferred real instruments.

...At this point, I would like to THANK BLOGGER PROFUSELY for adding that popup window that automatically comes up and asks you if you're sure if you hit a button or something that would make you navigate away from your unfinished post. I LOVE THAT WINDOW.

Anyway, back to Fives...

1. What did you want to be when you grew up? An artist or a teacher. God, what was I thinking?

2. Did you follow through? If not, what happened? No. What happened? I developed half a brain. >>

3. Is your life turning out the way you thought it would when you were a kid? If not, is it better or worse? I would say no, it is not. No one, even me, would've predicted I'd ever want anything to do with Japanese culture since I never really even touched it (willingly) until I was a freshman in college. Also, of course, a few of my... philosophies and such... have changed since then.

4. Paradoxes aside, if you could time-travel back to when you were 10 years old, what would you tell your 10-year-old self? To not bother suppressing what's inside anymore. Other people might not like it, but I might've felt a lot less lonely and outcast.

5. Do you think the child you were, would like the adult you've become? Doubtful. Simply because I don't like children and I'm not afraid to subtly let them know it. >>

1. On what day do you celebrate Thanksgiving? Day of.

2. How do you traditionally celebrate this food filled holiday? Dad spends 2-3 days cooking enough to feed at least a couple dozen, then only around 10-12 people, mostly his family and my brother and nephew, come to eat. Meal is ALWAYS at noon sharp (unless dad misjudges the stove time for a batch of rolls :P), and after food, the parents and dad's family sit around watching stupid westerns or football games while I sneak off with Dumplin' (if she's there) to do something more entertaining. For the next week, we eat nothing but leftovers for every meal, and over the next month or so we're STILL polishing off the last of the leftovers. It's a great time. :P

3. How do you like your stuffing cooked (in the bird, separately in a dish, store bought, etc.)? In the bird or in a dish, but it's gotta be homemade.

4. What is your favorite dessert to eat on Thanksgiving and who makes it? Any of dad's cakes or dessert rolls... pumpkin roll, Swiss roll, peppermint Swiss roll... *drool*

5. Can you name five things you are thankful for? Family, the few precious friends I have, the roof over my head, the opportunities I have to keep my Japanese in practice, and you know. The usual no-brainer stuff. That counts as five. Shut up.

1. What do you do for fun? Listen to music, read, write, doodle, translate, play video games, play with my critters... depends how I feel.

2. Is there a person from your past you would like to talk to again, even if it would be a potentially painful conversation? Jess, I suppose. I do still get to see her a few times a year though.

3. What is your favorite comfort food? Nothing can top Ben & Jerry's.

4. What is your preferred form of self-expression? (Do you dance; or express yourself through music, conversation, etc.) I express myself in ways people can't really see. Journals, art that stays in an unfinished-so-don't-show-anyone status in my computer files or doodle folder, the type of playlist I listen to, etc.

5. You just received $5000; what do you spend it on? Nothing - it goes in the bank.

1. What do you like or dislike about autumn? Like: the cooler yet not freezing weather, the colors, the calm atmosphere... and can't really think of any dislikes.

2. Have you raked leaves into a pile just to jump in them? I've raked leaves, and I've jumped in piles, but never one for the exclusive purpose of the other.

3. Have you ever carved a pumpkin and how did it turn out? Yes, and eh... I wasn't too impressed... >> Fun to do, but I could've done better...

4. Have you ever eaten anything made from pumpkins other than pie? Several things... the most amusing probably being Pumpkin Pocky. :P Though I suppose it's hard to tell if that was actually made with real pumpkin... >>

5. Where is a good spot to see the leaves change color where you live? I can look right out my window and see color. Or if I'm feeling adventurous, just drive up and down the road a few miles either way.

1. How long have you had your LiveJournal/blog? Livejournal since late 2003, blog since the end of 2001.

2. What do you consider to be the main purpose of your LiveJournal/blog? Just the usual dear diary stuff, except more careful about what I want the public to see.

3. If you could change something about your personal blogging style, what would it be? I dunno... report on more exciting things than my mood now and then? >>

4. What are your criteria for adding someone to your friends list/blog roll? Hard to say... I have to have a good idea of who they are, preferably through something other than the journal service itself (real life, a fandom, friend of a friend, etc). Has to be some thread of something in common, I guess.

5. Name one thing that you've never before written about in your LJ/blog. If I wrote about it, then there'd be nothing I've never written about, wouldn't there?

1. What kind of computer do you have? (Mac, iBook, Dell, etc.) Regular run of the mill desktop PC. Not Dell or Gateway or anything... just a company brand called Aspect.

2. How old is it? Are you happy with it? It's just over 5 years old, and I suppose I'm comfortable with it, if not happy. There's a lot about it I could stand to see improved, but I can't imagine being with anything else by now.

3. How many computers are in your household? (at home if you are away at school) Three - my PC, parents' PC, and a laptop.

4. What are your favorite games/timewasters on your computer? The internet itself is the ultimate timewaster, is it not? I'm also quite into the Sims and Petz... and was a huge Ragnarok Online junkie before my subscription expired... probably still would be if one didn't have to pay by the month =_=

5. If money were no object, what kind of computer would you like to have? One of those sleek little laptops that can do pretty much everything and has so much disk space that no collection of videos, music, games, etc. could ever outdo it.

1. Who is your mobile phone provider, and how many minutes are in your plan? Cingular... and I have no idea. I almost exclusively use it on nights and weekends anyway, and those are free.

2. What program do you primarily use for instant messaging? On my cell, none... on the computer, AIM when I feel like it.

3. Who do you send and receive text messages from most? My provider. >>

4. What area code do you live in? 740. GET THIS THROUGH YOUR HEAD, CELL USERS WHO THINK AREA CODES ARE JUST THERE TO LOOK PRETTY!!! *sick of wrong numbers >>*

5. What year did you first get an e-mail address and do you still use it? Umm, my 16th birthday gift was the internet... soooo, 1998 I guess... and no, I haven't used it for several years.

1. What if any instrument do you play? Trumpet. >> Played guitar for a year but I'm sure I don't remember a thing anymore, other than maybe one or two chords.

2. If you could choose to play an instrument what would it be? BASS T_T

3. If you were in a band, what would your band’s name be? Heck if I know. I leave that stuff to the more creative people.

4. What type of music would your band play? I dunno, something cool with real instruments and a nice broad style range. Mostly rock-ish, I guess.

5. Would you continue to be good for years to come, or would you and your band end up in Branson playing for bus loads of elderly? We would most likely never get any gigs beyond local clubs and parties, and would all probably get too lazy to keep playing within a year or two.

1. How much money is in your wallet right now? $45, I think

2. How much money would you need in the bank to feel secure? Rich? Secure? Around ten grand. Rich? Several hundred thousand.

3. If someone gave you $100, no strings attached, what would you do with it? Hop around town and pick up a few little things I'd been wanting for a while.

4. If someone gave you $1 Million, no strings attached, what would you do with it? Share with the few people I love enough to think they deserve it, pay off my college loans, get a new car and new computer, take my kitty and Dumplin' on vacation in Japan, adopt some shelter animals and/or donate to something like the World Wildlife Fund, and put the rest in the bank for when I finally get off my butt and find my own place.

5. How much does something have to cost before it starts counting as "real" money, as a purchase to be considered and evaluated, but below which you'll buy without really thinking about it? About... $30 or $40, probably.

1. Photo albums or picture frames? Albums.

2. Digital camera, disposable, or point-and-click? Point and click. And to add to the Freudian slip typos I committed the other night which my kitty knows about... the first time I tried to type that, it came out 'point and lick.' :P *makes a note to include in bag when packing camera to take to kitty's this weekend >> <<*

3. What facial expression (of yours) is usually captured in pictures? I usually look freaked out in pictures >>

4. What's your favorite picture and why? Right here, and do you have to ask why? :P Actually, if we're talking about any picture and not just ones of me, there are others I could pick... but I don't think I'd be allowed to show them off here... >> <<

5. Do you take the picture after you say "1, 2, 3", or after you say "2" and right when you say "3", or do you use another method or not count? I just ask the subject if they're ready, and if they say yes, fire away.

1. Can you share a tale of a favorite summer cookout/get together? Getting pretty far back in the archives now... >> Anyway, uh... no, not really sure... most of the family cookouts where I get to hang out with Dumplin' are pretty sweet. Rare anymore, though.

2. What is a favorite summer ritual of yours? Hiding in my nice air conditioned house and glaring at the heat waves outside.

3. After a long hot summer day, what is your favorite way to quench your thirst? Actually, probably Koolaid... it's just sugary and flavored enough to be better than water, but not enough... substance or weight or something... to be uncomfortable going down in hot weather.

4. The 4th of July is coming up, what plans, if any, do you have? I don't really do anything special, though for the last few years we've had the family (meaning my dad's parents' household and my brother and nephew) over for dinners from the annual fish fry at the nearest fire dept. Blah. More fun lounging on the floodwall with some good friends watching the fireworks over the lake...

5. What are you looking forward to doing most before the summer ends? I don't really care to do much at all in the summer. Too hot.

1. What do you wear to bed? Lounge pants and either an old baggy sweatshirt or an old baggy T-shirt, depending on the weather.

2. What side of the bed do you sleep on? In the middle... if I roll too far to one side I get sucked in :P

3. Do you sleep with a stuffed animal? Sometimes... there are always a few sitting behind my pillow, at the least.

4. Blanket/bed hog? I don't think so... am I...? >>

5. Do you make your bed everyday? *snort* I deliberately maintain my bed so there's not much to make. It has a waterbed-specific fitted sheet with a flat sheet attached at the bottom, so they tuck in together, and a single old floppy cozy comforter thrown on top. All I have to do to "make" it is pull the comforter back up to cover the bed.

1. How do you feel about the technology advancements of cloning people and animals? It's not man's place to play God. That pretty much sums it up.

2. If this technology became readily available to all, how do you think this will affect the future of our race? As if the world wasn't overpopulated enough now, we'd have not only mass amounts of spawn running around, but also at least half again the world's human AND animal population in clones adding to the overcrowding. That or people would just create clones instead of offspring, and the gene pool would pretty much stop. And I could go on longer, but that's as far as I feel like thinking about it right now.

3. If your much loved pet died and cloning was available, would you elect to have your pet cloned? What about family and friends? No and no. Death happens for a reason.

4. Would your family have your consent to be cloned? Why or why not? God, NO. As if the world needs me in it for ANOTHER generation? It's probably had enough of me already in the current one.

5. If you had the authority to clone any person no longer alive, who would it be any why? Even if I considered cloning ethical, I don't think I'd pick anyone. The dead are meant to stay dead.

* What things did you enjoy as a child that you no longer do? First things that come to mind are baseball (as a spectator) and Elvis. For a few years there my mother almost rubbed off on me. >>;

* What things did you enjoy as a child that you still do today? Staying inside reading or drawing or writing while the other kids played outside... probably several other things...

* What things do you do now, that the child you were never thought you'd like? Listen to hard rock, metal, goth, etc. That stuff freaked me out when I was little.

* If you could go back to one age and stay there for a while, what would it be? 15. Or 22 was a pretty good year too...

* If you could fast forward to an age (you do get to come back!) for a while, what would it be? Naaaah... I'll just stay here. I prefer for life's little depressions to stay a surprise until their time comes so I don't have to spend my present life fretting over them. >>

1. What was your favorite breakfast cereal when you were a kid? I had lots of them... Cookie Crisp, Frankenberry/Count Chocula/Booberry(was that the third one?), Fruity Pebbles, even regular Cheerios with plenty of sugar dumped on...
2. What is the best toy/prize you ever got in a box of cereal or because of sending in UPC’s? Geez, I couldn't say... I loved all those little toys as a kid.
3. How do you take your eggs (scrambled, over easy, egg beaters)? I'll take them pretty much any way they can be made.
4. What is your favorite breakfast meat (bacon, ham, sausage)? Bacon and link sausage, equally lurved.
5. What is your favorite spot (local or chain restaurant) for breakfast and where is it located? I don't really eat breakfast out... and very rarely eat breakfast anymore at all due to my wonky sleep schedule. It's sad though... I love breakfast food, and I'd love to eat it just about anywhere, but I'm always asleep during those hours.

1. What made you happy this week? Kitty came ^_^

2. What made you sad? Kitty left ;_;

3. What made you angry? My nephew being a freaking brat pretty much ruined the past couple weeks for me overall... until Kitty came >>

4. What are you looking forward to in the next week? Going to Kitty's :P Actually that's more for the weekend... so next week, I'm finally gonna get one of my new bettas set up in the 5g tank that's been waiting here for him.

5. What are you not looking forward to? All the cleaning and rearranging and other work it's gonna take to make room for that tank. -_-

1. How often do you get sick? I get sinus colds every couple months, but I don't count those >>, so not very often. Might get a minor flu once or twice a year, but not much worse.

2. Do you take a lot of over the counter medicine? Tylenol for pains and cramps and fevers, Prilosec for the tummy, Sudafed and Benadryl for the colds, and that's about it.

3. Have you ever been in the hospital for an extended period of time? No, just a few hours at a time.

4. Are there any diseases that run in your family? Sarcoid, arthritis (does that count?), high cholesterol, a few cancers in the abdominal region, and possibly diabetes, but we're not sure about that one... it's skipped a generation or two if so.

5. What is the best remedy for the common cold? Ample fluids, especially juice and hot cocoa/tea, and plenty of rest.

1. What are your five favorite all time TV shows? All time? Beh, I dunno... Xena, Whose Line is it Anyway (Clive please)... and then I guess Simpsons, Family Guy, and Futurama are tied for the next place, though I don't exactly call myself a diehard fan of any of those...

2. What five things you want to do before the year is out? Travel somewhere cool with Kitty, find a job (want and need are two different things here, but... >>), finish reorganizing/remodeling my room, get the final 2 seasons of Xena on DVD, and... I dunno... go to a BLOOD concert >> *doesn't see that happening*

3. Who are five people (alive, dead, or otherwise) you would want to have dinner with? Kitty, Kaede, Yuu (>>), Fu-ki, and umm... Matsu Takako >>

4. Where are five places (cities, states, countries, etc.) you would like to visit? Japan, New Zealand, Canada (like BC or PEI or the like), Greece, and Florida (don't ask >>).

5. What are your five favorite desserts? Ice cream, cake, ice cream, chocolate, and anything with ice cream.

Ooook, I better stop now. >> Got a lot to get done before I depart for Kitty's tonight...
